The recipient enters their identification information, user ID, email address and password and clicks the "Continue" button. This information is confirmed by DEERS.

The recipient checks and confirms that the information provided is correct. If the beneficiary needs to make changes, they must click the "Back" button at the bottom of the page. You will return to step 2 to begin the registration process again, where personal information is verified by DEERS. If the information is correct, the recipient must click the "Continue" button.

The Recipient reads the "Disclaimer", which contains information that he can access through the Recipient's self-service. Then he presses the "I accept" button. If the recipient clicks the "I do not agree" button, they will not be able to obtain a self-service user ID.

The recipient receives a confirmation screen to let them know that the registration was successful and a confirmation email has been sent to the provided email address. WASHINGTON (June 6, 2013) — As Knowledge Online transitions to next-generation enterprise services, retirees and family members will be able to access the Department of Defense online self-service web pages through a more secure DoD self-service login called "Sign in to the DS System."

DS Logon provides Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs or VA, members and affiliates access to US Department of Defense and VA applications such as eBenefits, TRICARE Online, Beneficiary Web Enrollment, MilConnect, Transferability of Education Benefits, Health Net Federal Services, Humana Military, MyTricare .com and TRICARE-overseas.com, just to name a few.

The DS Login system will become the primary web authentication method for the US Department of Defense and VA in the near future.

The goal is to maximize the number of DS Logon registrations and institutionalize the registration process by November. DS Logon replaces Knowledge Online login.

With a single username and password, DS Logon provides a high level of authentication that goes beyond a simple username and password. The system enables authorities to provide users with personal information in real time.

Individuals eligible for a DS login account include: military personnel (active duty, Guards/Reserves, retirees); veterans; spouses (including surviving spouses); and eligible family members age 18 or older.

To obtain a DS login account, users must be registered with the Protection Eligibility Reporting System, known as DEERS. There are two types of accounts: basic and premium. A premium account allows users to access websites that contain their personal information.

A basic account can be obtained online without identity verification, but it does not provide access to personal information in VA or DOD systems. The main benefit of the basic account is that it allows users to upgrade to a premium account more quickly when they visit their regional VA office or TRICARE service center in person.

To obtain a DS Logon account, users can visit "DS Logon - My Access Center" on the web at https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dsaccess. On the website, users can create a basic account or upgrade to a premium account.

The fastest and most convenient way to get a premium account is to go through the "remote verification" process on the site. This process includes using a secure identifier that users may already have, such as a social security number, and answering three basic personal questions. CAC holders can instantly update their accounts with their CAC.

Individuals who do not have a CAC and who, for any reason, are unable to complete the remote verification process may request an activation code from the DoD Data Center if they have a myPay account created with the DoD Finance and Accounting Service.

Users unable to complete either of these processes can obtain a premium DS login account by visiting a regional VA office or TRICARE service center. The location can be found on the DS Logon - My Access Center website. Many real-time automated personnel identification systems or RAPIDS, offices, military ticket offices can also provide DS Logon accounts.
